Margaret Murray (née Glass): 1780-1857

Margaret's father, Robert Glass, married his first wife, Agnes Kerr, in 1762. They had three children:

  • Helen, born on 28 January 1763 at Port of Menteith. She would later become Mrs Henderson.
  • Janet, born on 3 February 1765 at Port of Menteith. She married George Tosh on 31 January 1792.
  • Thomas, born on 1 March 1767 at Kippen. He married Esther Andrew in Glasgow on 22 July 1796.

    Robert’s second wife was Elizabeth Patterson, whom he married at Kippen, Stirling, on 29 August 1774. He had a further three children with Elizabeth:

  • Elizabeth – born in Kippen on 1 October 1775. She married Thomas Braidwood in Barony on 24 October 1819.
  • Agnes – born in Kippen on 7 June 1778. She died in childhood.
  • Margaret – born in Kippen on 26 November 1780. She married my great great great Grandfather Alexander Murray on 3 November 1807 when she was just a few days short of her 27th birthday.

    Margaret died on 30 March 1857, having outlived her husband by 20 years. She was buried on 3 April 1857 in Edinburgh’s Warriston Cemetery. We know from her interment certificate that interment dues were £1.2s.
