McDiarmid gravesThere are 5 McDiarmid graves in the little cemetery at Ardtalnaig. I still have to do more work to determine whether they are all "our" McDiarmids. Grave One: "In memory of Robert McDiarmid, farmer, who died at Morenish 8th April 1890 aged 76 years and his wife Margaret Campbell who died at Auchnafree 9th May 1873 aged 50 years and of their children Grace who died at Claggan 16th March 1851 aged 3˝ years, Duncan and Jane who died in infancy and Janet who died 9 October 1897 aged 32 years." Grave Two: "1850 Erected by D, J & R McDiarmid to the memory of their parents John McDiarmid and Grace Campbell. Both died at Tomflour and being buried in this churchyard in peace with friends and neighbours." Grave Three: "Erected by his sons to the memory of their father Archibald McDiarmid tenant Tomflour who died 20 March 1844 aged 72 years and his wife Rachel McDiarmid died 21 September 1818 aged 65 years and their son Alexander died 15 March 1850 aged 28 years." Grave Four: "James McDiarmid, Farmer, died 22 July 1868 at Ballamenach, Loch Awe and his wife Jane Campbell died at Carrique (or Carrigue?), Kippen, 29 August 1889." Grave Five: "In loving memory of Jane Campbell McDiarmid who died at 10 Rothesay Place, Edinburgh on 18 July 1901 aged 48 years, eldest daughter of the late James and Christina McDiarmid, Tomflour. John McDiarmid born 1837, died 1928. ‘Bright is her glory now, Boundless her joy above, where on the bosom of her god, She rests in perfect love.’" |
