Introduction to the Lüthis

My link to the Lüthis

....is through my mother's father. My grandfather was Fritz Lüthi, the second son of Jakob Lüthi and his wife Anna Kramer. I can trace my ancestry back to my great great grandfather Hans Ulrich Lüthi.

My Great Great Grandfather: HANS ULRICH LÜTHI (1819-1869)

Hans Ulrich was born on 22 December 1819 in Lufingen and died on 7 March 1869 in Pfäffikon aged 49. He left a wife, Marie Elisabeth, and 5 children. His wife remarried, but her second husband was not a loving step-father to her children.

My Great Grandfather: JAKOB ("SCHAGGI") LÜTHI (1862-1940)

Jakob was born on 3 March 1862 in Lufingen and died on 4 May 1940 aged 78. He was the second oldest of five children and had a brother and three sisters. He married my Great Grandmother ANNA KRAMER (1864-1934) in December 1888 when he was 26. They had four children, only two of whom survived into adulthood.

My Grandfather: FRITZ LÜTHI (1900-1972)

Fritz was born on 7 June 1900 and died on 4 July 1972 aged 72. He was the second oldest of four children and had two brothers and a sister. He married my Grandmother IDA BACHMANN (1901-1994) in 1924 when he was 24. They had three children, all girls.

My Great Aunt: ANNA LÜTHI (1904-2002)

Anna was born on 11 December 1904 and died on 22 April 2002 aged 97.

My Mother: GERTRUD (TRUDI) LÜTHI (1925-2014)

Trudi was born on 18 August 1925 in Embrach, Switzerland. She was Fritz and Ida's eldest child and had 2 younger sisters. She attended primary and secondary school in Embrach before transferring to the Gymnasium in Winterthur in spring 1942 to complete her schooling. In the summer of 1945 she passed her matriculation exams and in October of the same year she enrolled at Zürich University to study English and German. Her intention at that point was to become a language teacher. .....more
